Paranormal Experiences: Visions of Heaven
On October 10, 1959, my younger brother, Danny, came into the world a premature baby weighing a whopping two pounds, five ounces. The technology of modern neonatal intensive care units gives such tiny babies a fighting chance. In 1959, nonetheless, the prognosis was grim.
Danny and I were the youngest in a sibling strip of six youngsters, and I was only two years old when he was born. I have no personal memory of that trying time. I have heard stories of his miraculous survival via relatives and my older siblings.
Despite the trauma he faced in the 1st few months of life, Danny thrived, and grew to be a strapping man; caring and family oriented. He was blind in one eye due to difficulties at birth but that by no means slowed him down. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest, being productive defined his character.
Danny married his soul mate, Sheri, and they had four kids together. He was devoted to his wife and family. When he was in his mid-forties, Danny developed Sarcoidosis, an interstitial lung illness that made breathing incredibly difficult. He by no means smoked, except for two weeks in high school when he thought it made him look cool; he employed to say. Given that truth, it seemed a bit unfair that he was slowly debilitated, requiring oxygen, and quickly fatigued.
He was hospitalized repeatedly for respiratory infections that had been potentially life threatening for someone with his condition. It wore him down but he often fought the great fight with a smile and an off-the-wall sense of humor.
In July of 2009, Danny quit his job for health factors. Sitting idle, watching CNN, and arguing politics with the men at the local diner was a difficult transition. He longed to be vital and productive again.
During these trying times, I tried to share my faith in a loving God with my brother. He didn’t care to discuss religion and shut me down in short order. Our parents passed away when we had been young and Danny harbored a grudge against God for that. When our older brother, Jack, died of cancer in 2007, that didn’t assist matters any. Still, Danny by no means became truly angry or bitter about his medical condition.
On April 1, 2010, Danny was hospitalized again with acute respiratory distress and resultant issues with atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure. He was placed on a ventilator, extremely tranquilized, and loaded up with IV antibiotics for the next eleven days.
Danny was kept highly sedated calm him and give his body time to heal. He slept continuously, sometimes peacefully, sometimes fighting the tubes attached to practically every component of him. His cardiovascular system struggled to keep up with the demands of his body.
On the twelfth day, the method of attempting to wean him off the ventilator started. The sedation was decreased and he was more alert. For two days he failed the weaning trials miserably. He couldn’t breathe with out the ventilator.
Finally, on April 15, he was able to hold his own throughout the day. They removed the intubation tube, the tranquilizing medications, and Danny could finally talk to his family again. He right away told us about a glorious glimpse of Heaven he had experienced throughout his lengthy ordeal. He referred to as it by name and spoke of its indescribable beauty and light. He was overwhelmed to understand Heaven really existed. It was an remarkable epiphany for him–for all of us.
The nursing staff instantly known as for a CT scan to rule out a medical cause for his sudden ramblings which they referred to as delusional ideation or hallucinations. The scans had been perfectly regular at that time.
As the day wore on, Danny experienced labored breathing and his oxygen saturation levels dropped once more. He allowed the staff to apply oxygen but he vehemently refused to be placed on the ventilator once more. He was not willing to exist on life support.
In the early morning hours of April 16, 2010, Danny suffered a major cardiovascular event. The medical staff worked on him for over an hour to resuscitate and stabilize him. With his wife’s consent, they placed him back on a ventilator. Repeat diagnostic testing showed no functioning brain activity.
By way of lengthy discussion with the neurologist, we made the decision to remove the ventilator as Danny had requested. He passed away quietly within a few moments; a really peaceful death.
A fantastic loss was made simpler by remembering Danny’s amazing glimpse into heaven–for him–as well as for those of us left behind. There could be many real world explanations for Danny’s vision. It could be the result of sensual deprivation and/or the effects of sedating medication, or any combination of the two. Whatever the cause, I believe it was from God. It was meant to comfort him and give him hope for a greater world in the next life.
If Danny’s life was a miracle to begin with, his death experience was an even higher 1. We miss him each day and selfishly wish he were still here, but it is a excellent comfort to know that he knew where he was going. Have a quite merry Christmas with Jesus this year, Danny boy.
